Many a times , when you go through baking recipes on the net or in cookbooks, they call for use of self raising flour. One should not panic! Its a fairly basic DIY that every at home baker must know! This particular recipe for self raising flour was taken from Nigella Lawson’s website.
2 tsp baking powder
1 cup plain flour
How to make it
Sift the flour and baking powder together into a bowl before using, to make sure the baking powder is thoroughly distributed (or you can put both ingredients into a bowl and whisk them together). Make sure that your baking powder has not passed its “use by” or “best before” date as baking powder also has a finite life and if it is old you may find that your cakes don’t rise.
